The beginning of this hammer's story was when Loki Laufeyson cut the hair of the Goddess Sif, Thor's wife. Under pressure from Thor, his adopted brother suggests that he go to the dwarven blacksmiths of Nidavellir to pick up a replacement mane. Out of the hair, the dwarves constructed a magical vessel and a huge spear suitable for the god Odin, named Gungnir. But that was when Loki had the idea to challenge the dwarves by offering to build another weapon stronger than the Gungnir. The dwarves did not let it go and succeeded in designing a weapon, including Thor's hammer. The Aesir chose the Mjolnir as the most extraordinary weapon.
