Having escaped onto the sea by boat without food or water, Ubbe, Torvi and Ottar find themselves at the mercy of the elements as they search for the mythical Land of Gold. Their morale is near zero . Baby Ragnar is starting to get weaker and weaker. Ubbe has too many and the tension rises between him and Othere.
Meanwhile, Ivar and Hvitserk are back in Kattegat . There, they are downright shouted down, the people only seeing them as traitors after the story with the Russians. However, the two allies agree to support Harald who longs for the throne. They manage to convince him of the importance of the support of Ragnar's sons for him. This new alliance is sealed at a banquet hosted by Harald.
