Despite the risks that Ragnar and his troops run, the arrival of their fleet in Paris instills fear in the population. Emperor Charles, urged on by his daughter Gisla, bravely declares that he will not leave the city at all. The defense of Paris is taken over by Count Odon who foresees a heroic victory against the Vikings in exchange for the hand of Gisla. Floki takes charge of building their fleet, while Ragnar suffers from Athelstan's absence.
